PURPOSE: This assignment covers questions from UNIT I and UNIT II. It will help students understand the concepts of

Questions:

Q.1) How many different words can be formed from the word  GANESH PURI? In how many of these words

i) the letters G and A occupy first and last place

ii) Letter A always occupy last place

iii) The vowels are always together

iv) The vowels always occupy odd places

Q.2) A tea party is arranged for 16 persons along two sides of along table with 8 chairs on each side. Four persons wish to sit on one particular side and two the other side. In how many ways can they be seated?

Q.3)A bag contains 12 white and 6 black balls. Two balls are drawn in succession without replacement. What is the probability that the first is white and second is black.

Q.4) A coin is tossed till a tail appears. What is the expected number of tosses.

Q.5) Suppose X has a poission distribution such that P(X=2)=2/3P(X=1), find P(X=3)

Q.6) In a normal distribution 30% of items are under 40 and 10% of items are over 60. Find the mean and standard deviation of the distribution.
